If you take a look at my Facebook wall there is an article about 10 thing not to do when grieving! It is a very good article! I wish I knew about it when I lost my Mom and Dad! I was very bad and became a workaholic to the point of burn out!

My Mamma and lifelong constant companion who I lived with even though I am 59, just died in April. I am still having a hard time. My dad died in 2007, but I was never close to him and he left us when I was a child.
My Mamma and I did everything together. I am not working, no income, no skills, just surviving in Mamma's house that is now mine. I found a volunteer grief counselor who has been very helpful to talk to on the phone. I rest more, and try to make an effort to take care of the basics even if I don't quite keep up. Clean house (however it's easiest to do method wise) do some things in the yard, wash the dishes, etc...
Here is a very good overview video of common grief experiences and what to expect (see link below)

My coping mechanism is my faith that I will see my family again

I dont like the phrase "let go". Its like these traumas/memories,etc are "tatooed" in our memory banks until something triggers us. I use the term "learning to move forward" with our lives and deal with the past as it re-visits us

My coping mechanism when I'm missing my dad is to remember the good times. One of my favourite memories is of me, my middle sister (this was in the middle to late 80s), our late nanna who is our late dad's late mum and our late dad all at a fair in a big park and our dad decided to give our late nanna a fireman's lift and all you can see is me n my middle sister sat in our twin buggy (there's a week short of 17 months between me n my middle sister) laughing at our nanna hitting our dad on his back (he was quite strong back then as he use to do weight lifting) and saying" put me down Philip (our late dad and brother have the same first and middle names)"
And our dad very carefully lowered our nanna to the ground and he would hold her to make sure she had got her balance back ok (my nanna was in her 60's at the time.
Our mum was in her early to mid 20s and our dad was in his mid-late 20s (my dad was 5 years older than my mum).
There's another memory that has stuck with me since I was 18 months old.
