Borderline Personality Disorder

A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question 💭
Ogden, UT

I have been recently diagnosed with BPD. Starting Thursday i start my year long DBT group therapy journey. Has anyone gone through this spacific treatment? I guess I just need some words of encouragement or something. Im going through a lot right now in life and i feel like its a lost cause, like its not going to work and everything is just hopeless and im and in a hole so deep i will never get out.

I've felt all the feelings you mention about hopelessness. I have had some experience with DBT. It taught me to not let my emotions control my life. There are specific exercises to learn that will help you to feel in better control of your mind. They teach grounding techniques that helped me a lot. Keep in mind that depression lies to you. It tells you that you are no good and everything is hopeless. I hope for you all the best.

Thankfully the group I'm in is very small. So that helps. It's also very laid back. And talk with a therapist about doing individual dbt

The therapy we're talking about is Dialectical Behavioral Therapy or DBT. It gives exercises you can use to manage your emotions. It's getting away from digging into your past and childhood trauma and handling the here and now. You can purchase workbooks on the topic on Amazon or some bookstores.

I have BPD and I have an individual therapist who does DBT with me. I am not a group person so it's better for me to do DBT individually but it is a helpful treatment for BPD, and one designed specifically for it. Good luck!
