Zoloft

I'm on Zoloft and have been for about 3-4 months now I think and since August I have gained 30lbs. I've seen that it can cause weight loss but could it be the cause of my weight gain?

Hi,
Ahhhh, the joys of medication side effects... I put on 40kg... I've lost 20kg since I changed meds. Each medication that has side-effects, can affect people differently depending on their body and brain chemistry. Through my medication review, I got onto a different medication and that had no side effects that have been bad for me, but I do have to agree with @A MyDepressionTeam Member; exercise is a great way to keep fit, give you back your energy and it also keeps you healthy.

If you're majorly concerned about the weight gain, please discuss a medication review with your doctor because it could be something that can be avoided through a change of meds.

How has your level of depression been? I took Zoloft for a year and didn't notice any weight gain. When I switched to something else, I was more depressed and gained weight from eating more to "comfort" myself. Many psych meds do have weight gain as a side effect, unfortunately. I really think we all react to meds very differently.
