Why Do People Not Take Me Seriously When I Say I Have Depression?
I am 19 which is quite young I understand, but whenever I try to talk to someone about being depressed or how I have a mental illness a lot of people just say I am being over dramatic when I have been diagnosed by a psychiatrist and have been admitted before. Why don't people believe me? Is it just cause of my age?
well now we have all the ears we need hun.
I feel that way with my family they tell me suk it up
Unfortunately i think the stigma behind depression and mental illness is still a problem which doesn't help such as myself and others. I want to tell my employer and colleagues i have depression but feel i would be judged so just put my mask on and carry on pretending i'm fine. I hope one day we can all be open and not be judged.
Depression is something that other people can't see. If you have a broken leg or something, people can see it. They don't understand what they do see.
It has nothing to do with your age....People are scared by mental illness so they belittle it..Deny its real so it won't effect them ..It's easier to say you are being dramatic than to understand and help.
