Violent Nightmares

A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question 💭

What can I do to not have violent nightmares? Has anyone on this site had or dealt with violent nightmares please help I’m desperate for answers! I also just had knee surgery and I’m not sure if the pain meds are affecting my psych meds!

I too have violent nightmares cause of past abuse etc.. What sorta helps me is try to write down what I can remember, then read it and throw it away. Gotta try different things too. My meds for anxiety help the fear go away along with prayer!!

I moved my meds. I take them at dinner so they kick in full swing by bedtime. When i took them in the morning, had terrible nightmares. Scary ones. I thought it was because the meds were wearing off in the peak REM sleep you need to have to function. You are in control of your health...try moving the time. Could help. Your body will tell you differently if it doesnt work.

Every now and then I will have violent nightmares. Normally I get up and take an anxiety pill and just pray. It's always hard getting back to sleep.

I have a patient that takes Prazosin for his nightmares. Talk with your doctor about this.

I have ptsd and the out me on prazosin for my nightmares. I'd ask my dr if your having them bc of the pain meds. if not then I woud talk to my psych. About nightmare meds. If you weren't having them before you started the pain meds then it's prob bc of them
