Effexor

A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question 💭
Gainesville, FL

I was prescribed this by my internist (my reg. Doc) and immediately felt sick (to my stomach) almost NO food of any kind stayed down, my head felt as though I was "floating" almost all day.

I am also in endocrine crisis/issues with salt-loss and thought that maybe my reg. doc didn't do enough due-diligence in the Endocrine field, with my Endo. doc whom I gave all the contact info to!?@!??

I was on Effexor for awhile and it did wonders for me but eventually stopped working. Effexor is a particular class of anti-depressant called an SSNRI: it controls both serotonin and norepinephrine. The control of both chemicals rather than just the traditional serotonin may have been what messed you up. I personally need to be on an SSNRI rather than your standard SSRI (what most anti-depressants are) but every brain and body is unique in its needs.

PCPs generally don't handle things like that.. I would recommend seeing a gyno or endocrinologist for hormonal malfunction as that is their specialty

you are probably right, my reg. Doc used it also as help for my menopausal syndromes but I don't think she is the correct one to prescribe anything and beginning to think I need to change Docs, I mostly see her PA and haven't actually seen my real Internist in over a 9 months!

I've been prescribed Xanax before, no bad side-effects, but it didn't work as well as Effexor would (according to my doctor), but I'll also ask about Seroquel, I have not heard of that, thank you Lili!
