How Can I Help My Best Friend When I’m Worthless?

A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question 💭
Royal Palm Beach, FL

My best friend is being evicted from her appartment with her husband and 6yo daughter. The government cut off her SSI because apparently she was cured of bipolar and anxiety disorder.
If I had my own place, no matter how small, they would be welcomed to stay with me but due to my own disability issues I currently am staying in my ex-husbands spare room.
How can I do anything to help her when I have nothing to give? I just feel so useless.

I agree with the majority of the answers here, you have your time and endless compassion to offer and give to her and her family. There is no cure what so ever for that, by them saying that, tells me the ignorance of our so called trusted government officials. And you, by no means, are worthless. From what i see of your situation, you are a careing, thoughtful, compassionate and a beautiful human being. I commend you for being willing to help regardless of what you are facing. So don't listen to negative words from the uneducated, stay true to you. You are strong and you and your friend and her family will perservere. God bless you and I will pray that our father places a hedge of protection around you and them.

@A MyDepressionTeam Member Tell your friend that no one NO ONE can be "cured" of bipolar disorder. That's like saying you can be cured on a heart murmur. Once you got it...you've got it. It doesn't sound like you can do anything for your friend except maybe be a sounding board. You're NOT useless you are just taking care of yourself. Oftentimes that's all we can do. I don't think many people have room in their house for 3 people. Good luck. Remember you have yourself to take care of.

Look on the bright side, she's cured from her disorders and not she can find a job and be productive.....and hope for the best.
