Does Anybody Struggle With Seasonal Affective Disorder?
I struggle with Seasonal Affective Disordeer and work long shift hours and it is really affective my ability to stay awake for the entire work shift. Every time it gets dark out, I start getting fatigued and depressed. How do you deal with Seasonal Affective Disorder?
Yes I live in the Seattle area and it is common. Usually in February is when I can't stand it anymore. Then we get two weeks of notice whether. I feel like I survived winter and I am happy. Then it clouds up and starts raining again. I know God is laughing.

If you can afford it get a sad light. I have seen them at places like Bed Bath & Beyond, if you cannot afford a specific sad light then change out the light bulbs in the room that you spend the most time in during your waking hours at home to Daylight bulbs. It will make a difference believe me. I have had seasonal affective disorder my whole life. I think I first noticed the effects of it when I was in high school. It has gotten better over the years. To give you some perspective I am now 58 years old. I used to miss a lot of work because of it in my younger years, but I have learned to not let it interfere with that. Now it is just mostly the feeling of wanting to hibernate in the winter and having no energy to do much of anything. The lights do help, please try that for a start if you haven't looked into it already. I think maybe it's gotten less severe for me over my life because your hormone mix changes as you age. It is still there, but it is not as pronounced as it used to be, as well I have learned how to get over the thinking that goes along with it that causes everything to sort of just stop. Best of luck with this, there is a way around it you just have to look for solutions. I think it would be particularly hard-working shift work, if it is possible at all for you to get a dispensation to work daytime hours just during the worst part of winter that would probably help you a great deal as well. I know some employers are more accommodating around this than others are. I have always been hesitant to disclose to my workplace that I have this, because I think I have it under control, in that I do not miss any time from work because of it in recent years. I hope that something in that helps you.
Yeah the more I read up on these light boxes the more I like them. They seem to really work. The light boxes range from $25. to hundreds on Amazon so you get a selection. I don't have this problem so I won't need one of these but for those that do it sounds really neat.
