Dysthymia
Has anyone heard of dysthymia, or been treated for it? This is a new word that has popped up recently, and from what I've read, it feels very familiar.
From what I've read, it's a long-lasting depression, that dips from time to time into major depression. It looks like they try to avoid phrases like "low-grade" or "minor" because it's not because it's so long-lasting (years) and can severely affect the person's life. I just wonder how treatment is any different.
I had to look it up. I didn't know what it was. It sounds terrible. I'm sorry you have it. Have you gotten on medication for it? Are you seeing a therapist. That's important for anyone with depression no matter how severe it is. I hope you are. I'll be thinking of you Kathie.
That's great you did your detective work on it. I'm happy you did that. Now you have something to go on. I also wonder if it would change the treatment. Are you doing ok with the treatment your on? If so then maybe not. Keep me posted if you don't mind I would like to know.
I am seeing a therapist, and have been for some time. But I haven't been diagnosed with dysthymia. It's been called "chronic depression". I came across dysthymia in a book, and when I looked it up, I was shocked at how well it seemed to fit me. I'm going to ask my therapist about it on Tuesday. I'd like to know if it would change my treatment at all.
Yes! . .
