What Do You Do To Make Sure You Get The Most Out Of Your Therapy And Psychiatry Appointments?

Please don't feel stupid. You are doing the best you can. If you have a topic you are embarrassed about, your therapist should be aware of the difficulty you are having discussing it and should be reassuring you that there is no need to be embarrassed. Whatever it is, it has been done before by others. We all have weaknesses and have done things we regret, but that is exactly why we go to therapy. Whatever you are telling yourself about this issue, that you are bad, worthless, shameful or whatever, be aware of those thoughts and realize that they just aren't true! You are not your thoughts, you are who is aware of your thoughts. Choose to ignore or contradict negative thoughts and choose thoughts that affirm that you are okay. I like to listen to guided meditations with affirmations at night to help with this. Make your mind up that you don't want to waste time on embarrassment and speak up for yourself. You are paying this person to help you. And if you don't feel like they are helping, consider trying someone new. As far as feeling like you are just recapping the week and making no progress, I am there too, with my therapist. Today I meditated and then journaled about what came up. I am going to discuss this with him, but I will also remind him that he started out with me saying that the root of my problem was early childhood issues. We need to get back on track.
