Has Anyone Being Diagnosed With Epilepsy ?

A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question 💭
Enniskillen, UK

I had as a child and now waiting on a diagnosis to confirm weather it has returned different seizures from when I was a child, I didn't realise that there is a link between mental health and epilepsy doing research and was wondering if anyone has been diagnosed and thier experiences.

Yes I had seizures before I knew I had psychiatric problems (anxiety and depression) my neurologist was the one who said I needed to be checked by a psychiatrist. He was actually correct and I'm so happy I listened to him because for years I had what is best described as an "empty" feeling all the time turns out it was a form of depression called dysthymia.

I have a controlled seizure disorder with my medicine. It's all about having one or more that determines your condition. Then you see a neurologist and perform an EEG. Measure brain waves.

All I know is that seventy or eighty years or so there were no medicines for bipolar. Then it was discovered lithium worked for bipolar, and also the medicines that worked for epilepsy also worked as stabilizers for bipolar. So today, epileptic and bipolar people take the same medicines to stay well.
This much I know.

I wasn't diagnosed with epilepsy, however was hospitalized a couple times in 2023 with seizures. I remain on antiseizure medication and have had no further seizures; also had to make lifestyle changes in case I do (I have to make sure someone is present/available when I shower,
no more baths. Contact with someone on a daily basis to ensure I'm alright, etc.). It is a loss of independence which is rather frustrating. Possibly will have a 24 hour continuous EEG this coming autumn.
