What Is The Difference Between Bipolar 1 And Bipolar 2 ?
I was diaganosed with bi-polar. Different psychtriasts said it was bipolar 1 and a few said it was bipolar 2. Is there a difference? I have looked it up on google search but they seem the same to me and if there is a difference do you need different meds for them? Not on any current meds or seeing a counselor but i just would like to understand this more for just me since my family does not care what i have or even try to understand any of my mental health issues. Thank You
They are also treated with the same medications.
I was diagnosed as Bipolar I, and my doctor explained it to me that it is diagnosed with one manic episode accompanied by delusions or hallucinations. He said that Bipolar 2 has what is called hypomania (not as severe as true mania) with NO hallucinations or delusions.
With bipolar 1, the mood episodes last for at least two weeks, and you have full-blown mania. With bipolar 2, the mood episodes only last for 4-14 days, depressive episodes are more common, and the cycles are so quick that most people don't reach full-blown mania.
O.k Thank you. I will read up on both of the mania and the hypomania. Hopefully that will tell me which one i have but i really would prefer not to be bi-polar at all.
Bipolar 2 from what I understand in my research doesn't have quite the extensive mania episodes as with Bipolar 1.
