Should Two People With Depression Enter Into A Relationship?

A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question 💭
Wellington, NZ

Recently my long term partner broke up with me because they no longer were in love with me. In a conversation they told me two people with depression should probably have never been together. Is this a cop out or is there some truth in this? I always believed because we both suffered at different times we would be the best people to support each other as we really understood what the other was going through.

I think 2 people can be in a relationship when they have depression I think that relationship would be more understanding because you both know what each other go through!

I am currently in a relationship with someone who also has depression and it is much better than my previous relationships with people who did not have depression. We understand and support each other.

I suffer from depression and so does my husband so it can work it definitely is not easy but so is every relationship and it does help us in ways because we know what it's like think it may be easier than being in a relationship with someone that doesn't know what it's like to have mental health as they don't know what we are going through and can be challenging also

I think it is possible cuz you can both relate from a point of view. I think it was a copout for them to say, yet probably not want to hurt you more or not know the truth.
Bible says if 2 or more are there, the one that is not down can help the other. In a group or alone, that is important to know.
only negative if both are down at the same time, but that rarely happens in true life. Also, IMHO it's always unique how each person feels and "is". We are not made the same, for some special reason. God knows

I don't know either; however, I do think that any chronic illness involving one or both people in a relationship add stress to a relationship.
