That sounds like bipolar disorder and you are cycling. Have you been tested? It wouldn't hurt to ask your doctor.

@A MyDepressionTeam Member Hi Lisa thank you for such a good explanation of my experience anyway. I was not diagnosed bipolar 2 until in my 40's.
I am hoping against hope that l will have some less depressed times soon as this last episode has been 2 years so far.
Any tips for coping with the never ending depression?

90% of people with Bipolar Disorder have depression and what ever mood you first had is the mood that will predominate throughout your lifetime. And it's often depression all the time - day after day, year after year with hardly any let-up. A lot of people with Bipolar don't have their first manic attack until their late twenties. Not to go against your diagnosis but if you have happy times (no matter how short) you may have Bipolar II Disorder (depression, hypomania) or Bipolar I Disorder (depression, mania). I spent decades depressed and on the wrong antidepressants until I was correctly diagnosed at age 40. @A MyDepressionTeam Member

Quite frequently. As I understand it, one can have periods of happiness while being depressed. That is not bipolar. Bipolar is essentially having prolonged periods of depression with prolonged periods of manic eppisodes. One has to also bare in mind, depression is not sadness and equally, happiness is not necessarily manic.
