Does Anyone Take Venlafaxine To Up Their Antidepressant, And If So, How Many Mgs Do You Take?

A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question 💭
St. Louis, MO

I take 120 mg a day of Duloxitine, then 225 mg Venlafaxine to up the Duloxitine. 2 X a day for the Duloxitine, 3 X a day for the Venlafaxine. Does anyone know if those doses are the highest you can take? A situation a couple of weeks ago brought me down in a depressive state, my meds aren't helping like they should, what can I do? He told me to call if I needed him, I won't go in patient to have my meds changed, I'm doing that at home, for sure!

That seems like a high dose of the venlafaxine. I know it's no fun to go into the hospital but they can make changes much faster inpatient than your doc can do outpatient. I just had to go to the hospital in October. Best thing I ever did. I think you might want to consider it. If not, I would call your doc asap and get in to see him. @Effexor, venlafaxine, doesn't work for many people and can actually make you feel worse. My son is a psychiatric nurse. An RN4 which is a high level. Doctors actually go to him for advice about medicine. The kid is a genius. He told me about the venlafaxine hardly working on anyone and it's not a good choice. You could feel worse going up on it and it sounds like a high dose. I hope this helps. Hang in there. Hospitals aren't so bad and they can help you and change things quicker and watch for side effects also. 🤗💕💕💕 I actually just looked it up, the highest dose is 375mg split into 3 doses. So you could try going up with your docs guidance. If that doesn't work, then the hospital could be an option.

Thanks, @MyDepressionTeam users... for all of your suggestions, it had been working for me until just recently. I'm giving the other drug a month to see if it helps, gets into my system and helps, then going to call him.

Hugs all around!!

@A MyDepressionTeam Member. Mary, i can tell u wot 2 do but it is way 2 risky. U DONT hav 2 be admitted, i actually think Desvenlafixine (Pristique) is way better, its basically the same but wif less S/E, u must not play wif ur med doses, way too many issues that could prove bad, i did but i knew wot i was doing & besides in the end i'm med resistant. Make an appt stat wif ur GP & discuss ur options.
I must also say the Ven is a high dose & i doubt increasing it will help.
Goodluck, make that call.
Toodles MOO x

that will be an overdose, please check with your Dr if it is the right thing to do, last time I used Venlaflaxine overdose I ended up in hospital for drainage. that was 2 years back , I am now a depression survivor and now on my 6 months without medication
