What Can I Do When I Get Up & Feel So Hopeless That I Want To Sleep All Day&/or Procrastinate & "run Away" From My Responsibilities?

I agree with the previous posters. Begin small but do make yourself do something. Do this each day. Dr. Claire Weekes told a story about a patient she had who could not rouse himself to get off the couch to do anything at all. She told him to paint his house. "But I'd have to force myself, doctor", was his response. Exactly. We sometimes, maybe even everyday, have to force ourselves. I still have to do this and I'm considered fully recovered from all aspects of nervous illness. The good news is that it does get easier.

Something this brings to mind is the advice I once read on Adrenal Exhaustion. This happens when we have been so tense for so long that our adrenal glands are completely depleted. They have to be allowed to heal and replenish, just like anything else. We can further this along by ceasing the habit of reacting with alarm to every quirk we notice. Accept this is how we feel today, but we're going to do something anyway. Dr. Weekes always preferred her patient overdid it than underdid it. There is no harm to be brought from making ourselves work. But do so with a goal in mind, an end to whatever the project may be no matter how small, and the reward of sitting down afterward.

Take small steps wash your face look at your self in the mirror and say I will do at least one thing today. Maybe just make your bed. Or make a new recipe. Go thrifting. Pick a new book or an old one even if all you do is something small. Once you do that thing feel accomplished. Maybe the next day you do two new tasks. Gradually motivate your emotional state to get to a physical state. I went through a bad spell in 2015 when my mom passed. I did nothing and struggled for a year. At the end of the day look at yourself and commend yourself for fighting through another day. Hugs

If you need to get the dishes done then wash a dish. That is it and that is all. I have been told to make thing rediculously simple on the hardest days. So that is what I do and applaud for any action taken. You can do this.

This may not sound appealing, but start off your mornings from tomorrow, by saying an affirmation, for example - “Today, is going to be a great day!” - And before you get up, deeply inhale though your nose, and push out your stomach, holding it for a few seconds and then exhale out your mouth, and your stomach goes in... do this about 3 or 4 times to begin with each morning. This helps with grounding yourself by learning how to deal with the thoughts of ‘running away’ etc, without it controlling you. I was exactly like you, didn’t want to face any days and wanted to sleep it off. Couldn’t deal with my issues. But I promise, it might not sound like much, but you will notice a difference :) Xx

I use a manual chair to get around. I had an ear virus once and almost lost all of my hearing. Everything was muffled. So yes, that would definitely stress me out too. Glad you have your hearing aids back. Makes a huge difference.
