Effectiveness Of Citalopram

A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question 💭
Macomb Twp, MI

I have been on Citalopram (40mg) since 2007 when my Mom passed away. Is it normal to be on this for so long? What would be a good replacement for citalopram since I don't think it's effective like it use to be?

I have been on Celexa since 2007, and it still works for me.
Check with your doctor if you no longer think it's working. Be patient.... It may take time to adjust to a new medication.
Good luck!
Hugs!

You probably do need to switch to something else especially after that long being on it...meds like that can definitely lose their effectiveness over time, check with whoever prescribes your meds there are so many new antidepressants available now
