Are Dealing With Side Effects Just Part Of A Depression Diagnosis

A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question 💭
Muskogee, OK

My Psychiatrist told me once my depression symptoms are better.
He doesn’t want to change any of my meds
That I have to choose between medience to help my depression and just live with the side effects.
Or try different meds to lessen the side effects and risk the chance of my depression getting worse.
Is this true?

Don’t give up. They often say “give it some time” I would always get really mad about that until I found it to be true.

It is hard to change meds . What you described is absolutely true. I understand your delima it’s good to ask and advocate for yourself, trust is something worth working for with your Drs. I think anyone who was first in the loop. Has asked all the same. Stay strong and believe in yourself.

@A MyDepressionTeam Member I totally agree with @A MyDepressionTeam Member! A lot depends on what the side effects are and how much they bother you. He put it very bluntly however. It's possible that you could switch to something else and have worse side effects or none. It depends. When I was in the hospital one of the drugs they gave me caused my jaw to clench. It keep clenching and clenching. You know I don't even know the name of the drug. But that episode scared the shit out of me. So now if my hands tremble...doesn't really phaze me. I appreciate what the drugs I take do. Best of luck to you.

Black rose I quess I’m lucky as wen my depression lifts I don’t feel any major side effects but my cholesterol is thru the roof I think due to my meds . At least being on meds I hv a good chance to live w out then I would probably kill my self at this point . Suffered too much and too long w this . Depends how bad ur side effects are ? Only you can make that decision . Cathy
