Mental Health And Occupation
Please let me know how your mental health has affected your job and vice versa.
I think my mental health has absolutely affected my employment adversely. My low self-esteem has prevented me from stepping outside of my comfort zone to really grow in the jobs that I have had.
You're welcome, I think that personally I can attest that depression can really be an obstacle toward learning new jobs and new skill sets, and that is why I have totally settled on fairly low-skill, repetitive types of work in my middle-age. Granted, this is not true for all people who suffer from depression. Some people can be totally depressed and thrive in high-pressure, demanding careers, though I think these people aren't all that common.
Me too. I haven’t taken the risks to grow in my job because of my self esteem
@A MyDepressionTeam Member My mental health definately definately affected my job. Going back to 1981 after spending a month in the psych ward the doctor told me to go back to work. And I did never questioning him. Then 7 years later I was also leaving the psych ward to going back to work. My mental health always always affected my job. Somedays more than others. Somedays when I was reacting to a med change I would feel like I was barely there. Above all I would never never want my mh to affect my job. It is a connection that I've never really talked about here or in my story. But it should be added in. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Annie
