What Would You Do If Your Dad Tried To Kill You When You Were 16?

A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question 💭
Detroit, MI

I grew up in a very abusive home. One night my dad was about to attack my mom. I was 16 and told him to stop. He chased me down the hall, picked me up by my neck, slammed me on my bed and started strangling me. My mom beat him with something to get off of me
I ran away from home shortly after. It didn't occur to me to go to the police. Now my sister's and family expect me to visit on holidays. Sometimes I do go but it's so stressful to be around my drunk dad and the aweful things he says about… read more

You have a Heavenly father who knows you personally and knows what your father has to you. He will be responsible for those things.

@A MyDepressionTeam Member I am so sorry that your sisters don't believe you. That is something aweful that your Dad did that to you.

@A MyDepressionTeam Member I would let your Dad Go! And stop seeing him or talking to him. No father should try to kill us. Being 16 years old that must have been a very scary time for you. I am so glad that your Mom and you are safe from that. I am sure it is very hard to be around your Dad. No Dad should talk bad about their Daughter. I am so sorry that your Dad does that to you.

Your Father is a very Toxic Person and being around him will drag u to his level. Try to be around positive people, and that will be helpful to you, and encouraging. Sometimes u have to keep Toxic out of your life.

Is there no way you and your dad could meet privately to attempt to reconcile?
Like Judge Judy says,, “You only get one father.”

I hope y’all can work it out.
If not you can meet him on his deathbed. That would be a kind thing to do for both of you and to tell him that you forgive him IMHO.

Just some suggestions…
